故事内的世界大约与现实中的1930到40年代相当。当时飞机刚发明不久，主要在战争中使用，一般旅行大多乘坐火车。故事中的世界只有一个大陆存在，而这个大陆被中央的路妥尼河及中央山脉分隔成东西两部份。大陆东侧为洛克希昂努联邦（简称洛克榭，官方语言为洛克榭语）及西侧贝佐·伊尔拓亚联合王国（简称斯贝伊尔，官方语言为贝佐语）。两方对于「哪一边才是人类的起源」这个问题争执不下，最后诉诸于战争。虽然现在是休战状态，但仍然常有武装冲突。最近一次是世界曆3277年时发生的列司托奇岛（一座路妥尼河上的小岛）纷争。洛克榭的姓名命名方式为，姓氏在名字后面；而在斯贝伊尔则是姓氏位于名字之前。。Lucy Pierce grew up believing she had a normal childhood with a loving and supportive mother, until she discovers old articles about the "Baby Victoria" disappearance - a high-profile abduction case that occurred when she was born.
